Reporting to the Lead, External Communications, the Communications Specialist is an experienced communications professional with expertise in financial services. With specific focus on client communications, the Communications Specialist will manage highly integrated corporate and regional communications and marketing programs that ensure consistency, relevance, timeliness and clarity of message. Additionally, the Communications Specialist will support reputational initiatives including issues management and crisis communications.

The Communications Specialist has exceptional project management and financial services industry knowledge, writing and editing skills across all channels (print, face to face, web, digital, voice) and will ensure the ongoing delivery of high quality communications. Proactive and creative, the person in this role will recognize opportunities to leverage news about MD and develop client (and advisor) communications to support its promotion.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Support strategies and programs that strengthen MD’s reputation.
  • Lead financially focused client communications tactics with responsibility for original content and for managing all approvals to deliver a high-quality output.
  • Assist with enterprise level client communications in alignment with financially focused marketing strategies and programs, including ad hoc and planned client-facing programs.
  • Work strategically with the Content, Marketing, Compliance, Product, and Translation Teams (amongst others) to build integrated programs.
  • Collaborate on key projects in support of corporately approved financially focused priorities.
  • Contribute to ongoing development of corporate communications strategy and policies.
  • Play an integral role in crisis/issues management.

Education & Experience:

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma and demonstrated experience preferably with specialization in Marketing, Business or Communications.
  • Project management experience with demonstrated ability to manage, monitor and evolve projects and programs on tight deadlines and changing priorities.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Expert understanding of the financial services, investment and wealth management industry.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of communications and content strategy and execution best practices.
  • Three to five years of financial communications experience with a demonstrated portfolio of work in the financial services industry.
  • Completion of financial industry courses an asset (e.g. Canadian Securities Course, CFP, CFA)
  • Proven experience in client communications is essential to meet the demands of this position.
  • Able to evaluate the impact of external and internal factors on corporate reputation.
  • Understands and able to provide guidance on paid, owned and earned media.
  • Media relations experience is an asset.
  • Bilingual (English/French) preferred.
  • Knowledge of physicians/medical profession and / or Canadian Health Care environment an asset.
