Associate, Private Investment Counsel

To learn more about CIBC, please visit Job Description What You’ll Be Doing Reporting to the Investment Counselor (IC) / Market Leader (ML), the Associate Investment Counselor provides assistance to IC/ML in servicing the investment needs of complex, sophisticated high net worth clients.

This is a development opportunity; the incumbent will progress through 3 stages of the AIC role leading to the Investment Counselor position.

Stage I: Familiarization with CPIC investment policies and procedures; asset classes and asset mix; team, administration and servicing standards; fee schedules, management philosophy, processes; and introduction to client interaction and progressively growing interaction with clients.

At the end of stage I, should be ready to start to meet with clients ($1M) alone and to progress to stage II.

Stage II : Ability to answer all client requests; refer to one up manager only on very complex issues, but should still be aware of all clients’ accounts.

Have a greater level of participation in marketing approaches and materials.

At the end of stage II the AIC should be 80% accountable for specific accounts ($1-2M), under the guidance of the IC/ML.

Stage III: Accountable (80%) for a maximum of 50 accounts ($1-2M); Familiar with network and, at IC/ML discretion, start to make own contacts.

Prepares marketing material for IC/ ML review and starts to deliver marketing presentations alone.

At the end of stage III should be accountable for 90-100% of accounts have been servicing and familiar with network, at ease preparing and presenting marketing material.

How You’ll Succeed Support the IC/ML in the achievement of business development targets resulting in new CPIC clients.

Under the direct supervision of the IC/ML, understand the concepts and processes of the sales cycle and develop the ability to identify the opportunities to develop and win new business for CPIC.

Participate, and gradually take more in responsibility in preparing marketing material for IC review and develop skills and credibility to be able to deliver marketing presentations alone.

Establish and maintain effective partnership and teamwork with colleagues.

Build relationships within the CPIC team and other business partners to ensure a level of service delivery that is seamless and timely.

Participate in coaching sessions by the ICs to continue development of investment knowledge, concepts and skills, client relationship management techniques, sales skills and the continued development of understanding the unique service offering of CPIC.

Understand the partnership and begin to work with key CIBC partners in Wealth Management including Private Banking Advisors, Wood Gundy and imperial Service, to grow high net worth client assets.

Participate in the high performance sales culture as part of CIBC/CPIC.

Continuously update knowledge and skills in order to meet customer needs and interaction preferences.

Keep up-to-date with current events, overall economic and financial environment, trends, products, selling techniques, etc.

and in particular those related to area of specialty.

Analyze market data to identify activities or conditions that may impact business.

Who You Are You hav e a university degree in.

Business or Economics.

You can demonstrate experience in.

(preferably 4-6 years) in a client servicing role in a financial institution.

You have excellent verbal and written communication skills and the capacity to interact with a variety of clients from the least to the most sophisticated.

Excellent interactive skills sufficient to convey complex conceptual information involving extensive interpretation and opinion.

Well-developed relationship-building skills sufficient to build relationships with clients and internal partners in order to solidify existing relationships and/or develop new business.

This will progress to include liaising with and obtaining the confidence of high net worth clients.

You have an understanding of investments and of markets sufficient to understand the concepts of detailed and complex inquiries from a sophisticated, knowledgeable and high net worth client group.

You can demonstrate sales management skills
– this may include sales models, principles and techniques sufficient to execute sales strategies effectively selling CPIC tailored solutions.

Financial analysis skills sufficient to understand and learn more about the provision of complex, unique and high value financial investment advice.

Working knowledge of the banking industry, preferably related to the high net worth clients.

Developed influencing skills sufficient to promote complex, tailored CPIC solutions in a competitive market to internal and external clients and convince others of the preferred options and alternatives.

Time management skills to manage the shifting priorities.

Knowledge of internal and external compliance issues.

You are a licensed professional.

With either (1) completed Level 1 of the Chartered Financial Analyst program and have 24 months of relevant investment management experience OR (2) received the Canadian Investment Manager designation and have 24 months of relevant investment management experience.
