The location in Montreal, (Quebec, Canada), is seeking talent to fill the position of Manager, Complex Accounting. This job is full-time permanent.
The incumbent will work closely with senior management and the operational teams to identify, express in layman’s language and resolve accounting issues that arise in a constantly evolving industry.
Your challenges:
This position will allow you to play a strategic role within the large, dynamic team that handles Resolute’s complex accounting and financial reporting. You will act as an expert for management and business units on complex accounting issues and non-routine transactions, as well as on challenging special projects involving the company’s financial reporting, including consolidated financial statements and management reports.
Your main responsibilities will be the following:
- Assess the accounting implications of complex and non-routine transactions, and prepare related documentation and memos;
- Take charge of various special projects, such as business acquisitions (purchase price allocation), implementation of new accounting standards ESG compliance, and more;
- Supervise the work of the Analyst, Complex Accounting;
- Take part in the quarterly financial disclosure process, including preparation of notes to the financial statements;
- Provide technical support to various finance teams, including mill controllers, multidisciplinary teams and business units for matters involving accounting standards and financial accounting;
- Take part in the development, implementation and maintenance of the company’s accounting policies;
- Prepare and provide internal training on updates to accounting standards and various accounting issues;
- Review accounting analyses and memos prepared by other team members;
- Review the statutory financial statements of Resolute’s companies and support the team in reorganizations;
- Coordinate SOX-compliance audits and tests for non-routine accounting positions and transactions with internal and external auditors;
- Support the financial reporting team in the preparation of monthly and quarterly reports for complex and non-routine issues.
Your team:
Reporting to the Director, Financial Reporting and Complex Accounting, you will be part of a dynamic team whose members work collaboratively toward common goals.
Your profile:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting and professional accounting designation (CPA);
- More than 8 years of relevant experience as a professional in a similar position at a public company or a large accounting firm that audits large public companies.
Your skills:
- Excellent communication skills in English and French and ability to clearly explain complex ideas, due to regular interactions with internal and external clients located outside Quebec;
- Solid knowledge of U.S. accounting standards (an asset) and/or proficiency in IFRS accounting standards;
- Excellent ability to interpret accounting standards and their practical application;
- Solid knowledge of MS Excel as well as BPC/SAP (an asset);
- Ability to communicate with all levels of the organization and adapt quickly to change;
- Thoroughness, attention to detail and self-sufficiency;
- Solid knowledge of consolidation (an asset):
- Ability to analyze and synthesize as well as exercise sound professional judgment;
- Ability to multitask and meet tight deadlines.
