Chief Advisor Internal Audit Financial Markets

National Bank

This is a Contract position in Montreal, QC posted November 17, 2023.

With a career in Internal Audit – Financial Markets at National Bank, you will be of great value to your business partners’ end to end process and therefore positively impact our clients and employees. As Chief Advisor for the Financial Markets team, you will be an expert resource for our audits focused on important risks. You will coach your colleagues on complex subjects and become a trusted advisor to your business partners by allowing them to implement innovative solutions to the identified issues. 

Your role

  • Demonstrate cross-sector knowledge of Financial Markets and their support teams, while building trusted relationships with various partners, and maintain open and transparent communication with them.
  • Coach the team on the processes, governance, reporting and best practices.
  • Guide the audit team members to identify significant risks that could have major repercussions on the processes examined (efficiency and optimization) and establish the audit strategy, notably through rigorous analysis of large populations to understand trends and detect anomalies.
  • Elaborate a testing strategy relying on data analysis or other tools in order to assess internal controls, analyze the problems encountered, identify root causes in cooperation with the partners concerned and support them in identifying innovative and achievable solutions to eliminate the causes of the problem
  • Draft the findings and present the results of the work carried out to the senior management and executives responsible for the processes being examined
  • Ensure efficient collaboration with auditors from other Internal Audit teams, the second lines of defence and external auditors

Your team

Within the Internal Audit sector, you are part of a team of 13 colleagues, and you report to the Senior Manager – Internal Audit Financial Markets. This position will give you the opportunity to work as part of a dynamic, innovative team where management practices favour a good work/life balance and in a sector where you can constantly progress while taking on varied and more complex assignments. You will also have to periodically travel to our desks and foreign affiliates (Dublin, London, Paris, New York, Toronto, Calgary, etc) in accordance with the audit requirements.

 Basic requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and seven years of relevant experience OR a master’s degree in a related field and five years of relevant experience OR university certificate and nine years of relevant experience
  • Minimum seven (7) years of in-depth experience in the end-to-end Financial Markets process, such as Front Office, risk management teams (market risk), compliance and/or Financial Markets Operations.
  • Desire to learn the internal audit methodology and use project management skills using the agile method.
  • Comfortable dealing with ambiguity and working on several files at the same time
  • Initiative and leadership skills
  • Ability to coach team members and share knowledge with team member.
  • Excellent spoken and written communication skills, ability to simplify and synthesize information.
  • Ability to analyze data and draw conclusion.
  • Ability to persuade others using solid reasoning
  • Independent, accountable, collaborative, good attention to detail and proactive
  • Bilingualism, both spoken and written (English and French), essential as we collaborate with our colleagues and regulators outside of Quebec
  • FRM/PRM, CFA (asset)
  • Knowledge of products and instruments traded in Financial Markets (asset)
