Occupational Therapist

GEM Health Care Group

This is a Contract position in Montreal, QC posted September 21, 2022.

POSITION SCOPE: Responsible for assessments of resident’s equipment and needs for residents who have been referred to Occupational Services.

Serves as a resource and an educator for quality and risk management activities.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 1.

Carries out tasks and daily work following policies and procedures and job standards of Gables Lodge.

2.

Knowledgeable of fire regulations and emergency plan and is aware of his/her responsibilities in emergency situations.

3.

Identifies problems and goals for referred residents and formulates a treatment plan.

Communicates the plan and provides the necessary instruction to staff.

4.

Modifies and revises treatment plans as required.

5.

Completes and maintains progress notes.

6.

Consults and communicates with the Physiotherapy/Occupational Therapy Assistant, nursing and medical personnel, family and outside resources to meet resident’s needs.

7.

Provides education to facility staff as necessary.

8.

Recommends equipment that is required for therapeutic purposes.

9.

Maintenance of confidentiality concerning resident, employee and organizational data and information.

10.

Advises Gables Lodge when changes in work schedule shall occur.

11.

Participates in relevant continuing education and applies principles that have been learned.

12.

Attends meetings as required.

13.

Reports any safety issues to the Unit Manager/Nursing Services Manager.

14.

Provide resident seating assessments and equipment trials as well as follow up prescriptions from external occupational therapists when new residents are admitted.

15.

To advise and prescribe splinting needs, equipment, or adaptive devices as needed to maximize resident’s independence and safety e.g.

beds; pressure-relieving mattresses.

16.

Provide feeding assessments and make recommendations and/or prescribe equipment as needed; follow-up and chart.

17.

Maintain Occupational Therapy statistics and report as required.

18.

Provide in-servicing on new equipment as needed to residents, staff and families.

19.

Communicate with Red Cross re: ordering prescribed equipment and delivery and retrieval of equipment from Red Cross storage.
