seeks a professional Protection & Control Engineer to support Protection & Control engineering activities in the office and in the field.

If you desire to work for a global market leader in Substations & Intelligent Grid Solutions and leverage your technical competences with our product technology and system integration capabilities then this could be the team for you.The main purpose of this position is to provide engineering, design, installation, and commissioning support of electrical protection, control, communication and monitoring systems for both AIS and GIS transmission & distribution substations and switchyards to our customers in Utilities, Cooperatives, Municipalities, Industrials, and Developers.

The AIS and GIS substation projects include, but not limited to, 13.8kV 550kV range with an emphasis on project safety, cost, quality and reliability.Must be familiar with the nuances associated with the engineering and design of protection, control, communication and monitoring systems for AIS substations (as a minimum), but preferably also GIS substations.

Provide P&C engineering services during the proposal, design, installation, commissioning, and energization stages of AIS and GIS substation projects Develop Protection & Control Application philosophy and SLD Recommend and/or select the required protection devices for the substation / switchyard configuration Develop AC and DC Schematic diagrams Conduct equipment specifications and associated documentation reviews Prepare cable lists and equipment point-to-point lists Develop Control & Instrument Cable requirements Create, or support commissioning engineer, with Field Inspection & Test Plans (FITPs) Conduct Short circuit studies and reviews Perform Protection coordination analysis Develop Relay settings and configurations Perform arc flash studies and reviews Auxiliary system design including load calculations and equipment sizing; including AC/DC panels, auxiliary transformers, transfer switches, DC battery sizing and parameters specifications.

Travel to project sites as required Adhere to ABB quality processes and document control procedures to ensure design documents are complete and accurate.

Your background Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology Degree and a minimum of five (5) years of technical high voltage systems substations experience of high voltage substations.


Proficiency in French & English languages with excellent technical writing skills is required Member of Canada OIQ Professional Engineer association or ability to register with OIQ is required; Must be able to get other Canadian Provinces professional permits.

Understanding on the functionalities of Electrical Protection, Control systems, Substation Automation systems and SCADA/RTU systems Familiar with the design, integration, installation and testing of electrical control and protection systems for generation, transmission and distribution systems Comprehends the benefits of modern Substation Automation communication standards and protocols (e.g.

IEC 61850, DNP 3.0) Broad knowledge of diverse field service operations and ability to independently resolve complex problems.

Foresight to anticipate problems and recognize opportunities for cost-effectively improving operations.

Independently plan and conduct work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, and adaptation or modification of standard techniques, procedures and criteria Knowledge of protection and automation devices software (ABB, GE, SEL) Action oriented, attention to detail, communicate effectively, decision making, manage projects, problem solving, technical orientation, teamwork Basic knowledge of applicable IEEE / ANSI standards is required, as well as experience with protective relays classified as “Intelligent Electronic Devices”.

Knowledge of Aspen Oneliner, ETAP, SKM or other similar protection software tool is desired.

Knowledge of AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, E3 & MicroStation is a plus.

This position requires the ability to clearly communicate with ABB, vendor, sub-contractor and customer personnel in order to successfully collaborate, coordinate, and resolve project related activities and issues.

Problems involve recognizing situations and applying appropriate concepts to solve problems that are usually short-term in nature.

Travel is required; up to 10-15% both domestic and international.
