Substation Design Engineer, Electrical Arrangement

Join one of our multidisciplinary teams today, and together, let’s build the future Work location: Mississauga Within the Energy team, as a Substation Design Engineer: Your responsibilities: You will be responsible for the delivery of specifications, designs and documents and for the quality and quantity of work assigned to you.

Your duties will include project planning, development of design criteria, review and approval of final designs and providing schedules and estimates for the projects.

In the course of employment with the SM Group International Inc., you will be required, depending on your abilities and skills, to: Create conceptual drawings, basic layouts, elevation drawings for transmission and Distribution stations; Create Bills of Material, Equipment specifications, lighting layouts, cable trench design and phasing diagrams; Perform High Voltage and Low Voltage equipment selection, cable selection, electrical calculations such as transformer sizing, equipment rating, volt-drop, EHT heat loss, illumination level, panel loading etc; Provide detailed conceptual plans, engineering designs and detail drawings for all the associated electrical arrangement work; Provide engineering support for procurement, fabrication, Civil/foundations and the associated construction activities; Manage and coordinate projects with multi-discipline engineering teams; Participate in the preparation of estimates, proposals, bids and construction contract documents; Review and approve all related designs and project drawings including vendors’ shop drawings; Conduct site surveys, inspections or technical investigations to provide data for engineering projects; Perform other administrative and technical functions in support of engineering activities; Provide support for compliance activities such as document control, quality control, process improvement, etc.

Your profile: A university degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience; 7 years of relevant experience in Transmission or Distribution substation design; Registration as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario is an asset; Ability to produce station basic layout drawings and the associated elevations for 220kV, 115kV & 27.6kV transmission and distribution substations.

Particularly in producing installation drawings for Power Transformers, breakers, instrument transformers (CT/VT), Station service transformers and disconnect switches; Work experience with fire alarms, lighting design, Arc flash, grounding and ampacity studies; Demonstrated experience working on HV & LV substation electrical arrangement designs is a must; Experience in project monitoring; Knowledge of applicable electrical standards and regulations (CSA, ESA.
