GHGSAT: Technical Sales Specialist


This is a Contract position in Montreal, QC posted February 17, 2021.

GHGSat offers greenhouse gas detection, measurement, and monitoring services to industrial and government clients around the world.We use our own satellites and aircraft sensors, combined with third-party data, to help industrial emitters better understand, control, and reduce their emissions.GHGSat’s capability is unique: we provide high-resolution, local measurements of atmospheric methane concentration from space.This enables us to detect exactly where greenhouse gas emitters are located and to visualize and quantify their emissions.We just launched our third satellite, and we are at a critical moment in our growth trajectory.

We are looking for a business-minded Sales Engineer to analyze and guide our technical sales in collaboration with Sales Directors, Account Managers, Inside Sales Coordinators, as well as our technical team.

Reporting to the VP, Sales & Marketing, you will useyour expertise to understand our scientific processes and help sell our products and services, with a focus on generating business from both current and new customers while strengthening our external facing sales and marketing support infrastructure.

This role will be based out of Calgary, Alberta.ResponsibilitiesMaintain an in-depth technical understanding of GHGSat’s products, services, functions, and processes and assisting to close sales where technical expertise may be required to fit the clients’ needsInterface with key customers to develop tailored and customized solutions to align with their unique needsProvide analytical support to customers with respect to their emission data we collectAct as a liaison between the sales and technical teamsCollaborate with internal teams to assist in the direction of our products and solutions so they continue to meet our customer’s evolving and changing needsCommunicate scientific and technical products and concepts clearly, simply, and concisely to clients of different backgroundsDevelop new business proposals for products and service deliveries and coordinate these activities with the respective stakeholdersEvaluate customer data and present it in a visually appealing format for ease of consumption by end usersKeep up on industry trends, changes, and competitor actionsSales and marketing channel maintenance – work with the Sales Director and VP Sales & Marketing to maintain and grow GHGSat’s sales and marketing network, both within your region or sector, and across the businessTravel locally and internationally (average 1 week per month) for conferences, meetings, etc.

(COVID-19 restrictions apply)QualificationsDemonstrated ability to learn complex technical systems such as imaging spectroscopy, and to explain complex technology both to technical and non-technical stakeholdersHigh attention to technical details with the ability to write directly and succinctlyStrong client-facing interpersonal skills, including a good temperamentStrong analytical skillsAbility to interact effectively at all levels within the organizationFlexibility, adaptability, autonomy, and ability to multi-taskTeam player: collaborative and openQualifications (Desired)Technical understanding of satellite remote sensingTechnical understanding of oil & gas operations, particularly regarding oil & gas productionUnderstanding of the Greenhouse Gas emissions initiatives in industry and the value of emissions capture in the current environmentGraduate degree in business, engineering, or sciencesEntrepreneurial energy and determinationAbility to work with team of highly qualified technical expertsBackgroundBachelor’s degree in business, engineering, or sciences5 years of progressive experience in engineering salesFluent in English, French an assetMust be able to obtain Canadian Controlled Goods security clearanceGHGSat offers a creative and highly motivating work environment.
