Purpose of position:To manage the District operations facilities, assets and personnel, ensuring that all operational activities are conducted safely, efficiently and effectively while ensuring conformance with all Corporate and local policies, programs, legislation and budgets.Reporting Structure:This position reports directly to the Senior Director, Operations & Logistics.Positions reporting to this role may or may not include the following (varies by District): Site Manager, Quality Control Chemist, Production Manager, Warehouse Manager, Work Leader, Operator.Key Accountabilities:Leads and inspires a high performing Operations Team that supports Brenntag’s Core Values and the Brenntag Way execution for business conduct and compliance; Contributes to the delivery of service excellence to both internal and external customer groups; Builds and maintains a positive work environment by actively driving employee initiatives aimed at enhancing engagement and satisfaction; Actively partners with union representatives on labour relations and interpretation of the collective agreement.

Operations manager will also participate in collective bargaining at contract renewal.

Manages operational activities to meet inventory and customer demand requirements; Manages District Quality Management System (QMS) and Environmental Management System (EMS) and/or other applicable programs; Ensures staff are appropriately trained in emergency response, health and safety, and in the minimization of environmental impacts of District operational activities; Develops annualexpense and capital budgets and manages operational activities to control expenses incurred by operations in accordance with the operations budget expectations; Develops, implements, and manages capital expenditure (CAPEX) and other projects, as required; Immediately reports all conditions that either could have or resulted in safety, quality, and environmental incidents; Inspects and verifies the satisfactory performance of all District facilities, equipment and processes, develops and recommends changes where necessary, and ensures that work areas are appropriately maintained, organized, and functional; Identifies and recommends changes or improvements, where appropriate, that enhance quality, health, safety, and the efficiency of processes; Ensures safety is the first priority and that all activities are conducted in accordance with quality, health, safety and environmental management system as well as corporate and local policies.Technical Competencies Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, and/or BusinessPrior experience in a manufacturing/distribution environment, preferably chemical distribution (5+ years)Effective team leader possessing superior communication and people management skillsSound computer skills in the use of Microsoft Access, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
