Purpose of Job: Leads and oversees Credit Adjudication for Hedge Funds Portfolio ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed / delivered safely and soundly and in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

Job Responsibilities:
• Takes a leadership role in partnering with Global Banking and Markets (“GBM”) to ensure safe and sound risk management practices are observed across Hedge Funds Portfolio.

Responsibilities include overseeing Hedge Funds Credit risk limits, reviewing underwriting standards and providing global support for the approval and ongoing oversight of counterparty credit limits and exposures across trading products globally.

• Supports Hedge Funds counterparty credit risk and credit adjudication function for the Credit Risk – Hedge Funds with authority levels.

Adjudicates on specific credits within limits and takes over limit/out of policy proposals to the appropriate credit committee.

Provides oversight and assessment of open counterparty exposures across product types, including repo, leveraged loans and prime services.

• Ensures the approach to risk management balances sound judgment, effective tools, considerable management input and prudent Board oversight.

This ensures that risks undertaken in Hedge Funds Portfolio are identified, measurable and manageable.

• Contributes to sound asset growth and profits of the Bank by ensuring credit requests are properly analyzed and adjudicated, ensuring requests are realistic and effective decisions/recommendations are made within reasonable time frames.

• Understands how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.

• Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

• Builds a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment and using a coaching mindset and behaviors; communicating vison/values/business strategy; and, managing succession and development planning for the team.

• Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.

Job Requirements:
• Requires at least a Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline.

Master’s degree, recognized professional designation in a specialized area of finance or business, or equivalent, is an asset.

• 10 years of experience in financial risk especially in front office (hedge funds) and risk management or related functions.

• Solid market risk understanding of trading products
• Extensive underwriting experience of Financial Institutions, specifically in Hedge Funds and experience in participating in Due Diligence calls and interacting directly with Hedge Funds Counterparties.

• Knowledge in the latest regulatory developments in market risk and counterparty credit risk.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills to senior management and external regulators are required.
