POSITION OVERVIEW Leading a small team and working collaboratively with Operations, the Director, Insights & Strategic Initiatives will be responsible for the following and report to the Vice-President, Strategy and Operations.

CHALLENGES TO BE MET Thought Leadership Proactively identify trends locally and abroad to meet Canadian venture capital imperatives, as well as identify emerging trends in advance of their widespread adoption with a view of serving entrepreneurs Structure and organize a research agenda with a view on presenting findings and putting forward recommendations that will influence decision-making Identify impactful initiatives that will shape and enhance BDC Capital’s reputation around innovation and thought leadership, as well as communicating and publishing findings publicly Align with Federal initiatives and seek opportunities for BDC Capital to offer solutions against perceived challenges Maintain knowledge of trends across local institutional investors, other development banks or other international institutions relating to investment management and investment trends across the Venture Capital and Growth Equity continuum Strategic Initiatives and Ecosystem Involvement Develop creative evidence-based rationale for new initiatives in support of nurturing VC and PE ecosystem either in line with broader BDC strategy or novel initiatives where BDC Capital should be an active participant.

Such initiatives may be in response to a specific opportunity or impact BDC Capital horizontally (ESG, D&I, etc.) Facilitate and mobilize existing initiatives including catering to needs of existing BDC Capital funds while taking ownership of the approval process Engage with industry counterparts by way of market research and maintain ties with key industry associations Evaluate partnership opportunities with 3rd parties including sponsorships to enhance BDC Capital’s ecosystem impact beyond its role as an active investor Support and Planning Collaborate with operations for corporate planning cycle Ensure oversight and execution of ad-hoc requests that frequently arise from internal and external stakeholders Review BDC Capital to determine strengths, weaknesses, operational effectiveness and opportunities, with a view of making recommendations to better achieve long-term goals Successfully collaborate with BDC Corporate on shared initiatives of interest that have an impact on BDC Capital Align, coordinate and influence strategy discussions with broader BDC Corporate Collaborate with other areas of the bank as it relates to communications, public relations and marketing Spearhead initiatives with a view on enhancing culture and employee engagement within BDC Capital, including training, organizing keynote speaker events, etc.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR 8 years or more of experience in Strategy within a Financial Institution or Management consulting background with exposure to FIs, Development Banks, sovereign wealth funds or asset management Firms Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Administration or equivalent MBA or equivalent preferred Demonstrated experience in implementing new strategic initiatives, from ideation to implementation Experience coordinating projects across multiple business units and support functions Exposure / Demonstrated involvement in Canadian venture capital and private equity Collaborative attitude and deep respect for entrepreneurs and entrepreneurship with insights into the challenges faced by Start-Ups and Growth firms alike French and English fluency strongly preferred (written and oral) Ability to work under pressure and tight timelines EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER At BDC, we value diversity in our workforce and encourage all qualified candidates to apply.
