Fort McKay offers the best of both worlds: remote northern life for the nature lover and proximity to a large city of about 70,000 people with all the amenities you need.THE OPPORTUNITY We are seeking a key team member to join the Fort McKay Business Department as Business Portfolio Senior Manager The successful candidate will work closely with Fort McKay First Nation’s (FMFN) oil sand counterparts in Joint Business Agreements and will be responsible for ensuring contract compliance, revenue growth and effective corporate governance of the Nation and its portfolio companies.

This is an important role which requires an in-depth understanding of oilsands contract and procurement processes, contract law and Board governance.

Under the direction of the Director, Strategic Portfolio Investment the incumbent will provide Board Management to FMFN’s portfolio of 10 companies and manage Executive and C-suite counterparts.

This is a permanent full-time position and is based on seventy-five (75) hours bi-weekly, some evenings and weekends beyond the standard work week will be required as well as some travel.

The successful candidate will have the ability to work from Calgary, Edmonton or Vancouver with monthly travel to Calgary or Edmonton.KEY RESPONSIBLITIES Responsibilities Include, but are not limited to:Maintain in depth knowledge of the contractual commitments in all Agreements and their practical applicationCoordinate and organize monthly, quarterly and annual reports from each Business CommitteeDevelop in depth knowledge of the corporate documents from the Nation’s business portfolioEnsure that companies are fulfilling key contract and policies obligations such as Aboriginal Employment and sub-contractingMaintain detailed and organized records relating to the Department’s business activities; this includes but is not limited to budgets, business and investment proposals, financial documents, legal documents, business plans, briefing notes, Agreements, meeting notes etc.Analyze contracts, agreements and Board structure, outcomes and processes to improve performance and assist in the revenue and profitability growth of the Nation’s business portfolioAnalysis performance of each company and make strategic and financial recommendations to the BoardPrepare analysis and briefings for FMFN’s Board members so they are informedEnsure FMFN’s shareholder interests and responsibilities are met for dividends, loans, cash callsUnderstand and interpret financial reports and present that information to executivesConduct business development to help the subsidiaries grow their revenue and maintain contractsOther duties as assigned Key RequirementsMinimum of Bachelor’s degree, Preferably an MBA, in Business, Law or Finance Extensive working knowledge of budgets, financial statements and contractsAdvanced understanding of contract law, procurement and corporate governance10 years of relevant professional experience in similar roleSolid understanding of the oilsands business, oilsands producers and contractorsExtensive experience working in a First Nations community including knowledge of First Nations culture, traditions and values is considered an assetAbility to speak, read and write Cree and/or Dene considered an asset Criminal Record Check is Required Valid class 5 Driver’s License & Clean Driver’s AbstractRequiredWHY APPLY?At Fort McKay, we ask a lot of our employees, which is why we give so much in return.
