Manager, Energy Transition

Main challenges The MPA seeks candidates capable of providing a roadmap and action plan for carbon neutrality within the MPA itself as well as for its tenants and clientele in the coming decades, to respond to increasing competition.

Under the supervision of the Vice-President, Port Performance and Sustainable Development, the incumbent will steer the energy transition at the Montreal Port Authority (MPA).

This newly created MPA position is intended to clarify the path toward fulfilling the MPA’s strategic objectives in energy transition and greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction.

The Manager of Energy Transition will guide the MPA in its strategic response to technical, economic and social concerns, through careful monitoring of jurisdictions affecting clientele at the regulatory level as well as shifting trends in the global transport and energy sectors.

The MPA has environmental and sustainable development policies in place to implement environmental protection measures, particularly in the fight against climate change by reducing its carbon footprint.

The incumbent has great communication skills and is comfortable acting in a position of authority with regard to all persons involved, and in situations of unpredictable outcomes.

The incumbent is obliged to look out for the interests of all parties concerned, identify common areas of focus, provide guidance, and facilitate cooperation among stakeholders.

Key responsibilities Collaborate with stakeholders on an energy transition strategy for the MPA, with a detailed action plan and roadmap.

Support the MPA in its transition to energy efficiency.

Recommend strategic guidelines that align with the Strategic Plan.

Provide consulting expertise in energy transition for internal and external partners.

Be a convincing, persuasive change agent.

Represent the MPA at conferences, seminars or other networking events and give presentations on an ad hoc basis.

Grow a network of contacts.

Be alert to the latest developments and best practices in the marine, port and energy sectors, and conduct market trend analysis with regard to competitors and foreign markets.

Identify potential hazards related to energy transition, adapt strategies and recommend proactive actions to mitigate impact.

Develop a strategy to replace revenue from bulk liquid fossil fuels.

Develop a strategy with regard to green energy, biofuels and the circular economy.

Ensure strategic alignment among environment and energy transition, business development, business intelligence and innovation, infrastructure management, and land-use planning of Port territory.

Select and execute demonstration projects or proofs of concept.

Conduct opportunity studies, consult on project budgets, prepare files, collect and manage reference resources Requirements and knowledge The candidate must be able to attest to significant professional experience in positions of responsibility related to energy and environmental issues, and meet the following qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in engineering, environment, political science, or other relevant field, ideally with a specialization in sustainable development and/or energy transition At least 5 years’ relevant experience in energy efficiency (energy transition or sustainable energy) Good comprehension of environmental and social issues as well as potential challenges in energy transition An interest in public policy and related analysis Strong writing skills, including the capacity to simplify technical information for lay audiences Good interpersonal and teamwork skills Great capacity for listening, analysis and synthesis Fluent in written and spoken English Awareness of current trends in the energy and environmental sectors Certifications in and/or extensive knowledge of the following standards: CEM, CMVP, ISO 14064, ISO 26000, ISO 50001, GHG Protocol, SBTi, GRI (an asset) Ability to prepare consultation files for energy efficiency projects Active listening and mastery of written and spoken communication for instructive purposes Independent and proactive Willingness to act, and commitment to making a difference EMPLOYMENT APPLICATION If this position interests you, send your application to: Marie-Eve Leclerc Senior manager, Organizational Development, We thank the applicants for their interest.
